Finding Dr. Haver and The Galveston Diet has been life-changing for me. I’ve battled my weight for most of my life. The last 20 years have been a real struggle with work, home, and family stressors. My weight has fluctuated as much as 50 lbs or more. I’ve lost weight through traditional caloric restriction programs, only to gain it all back. Twice. Surgical menopause in 2014 for Ovarian Cancer prevention didn’t help. My weight kept creeping higher and higher. This time a year ago, I was heavier than I had ever been. With a major “milestone birthday” looming, I had a decision to make. Either I tried one more time to lose weight or accept being old and fat. At about that time, I started seeing Dr. Haver’s social media posts. Her straightforward approach intrigued me. This program was different than other “diets.” The scientific focus on postmenopausal women, anti-inflammatory nutrition, elimination of visceral fat…The Galveston Diet made sense to me. The self-paced, internet-based program is flexible and affordable. With supportive coaches that are easily accessible to members, an active online community, book studies, challenges, accountability partners…The Galveston Diet is a holistic approach to weight loss. It is much more than a “diet.” It’s a new lifestyle for women who understand the challenges we face at this stage of life. We focus on progress, not perfection. The Galveston for Life sisters encourages and support each other on both our good days and those that could use some improvement. Since January of 2021, I have lost over 60lbs. My BMI and waist: hip ratio are both within normal limits. My body looks different than it did at this weight before. I’ve lost stubborn fat deposits, have more lean muscle mass, and have less saggy skin than before. The inflammation in my joints is all but gone. I’ve gained knowledge, insight, support, and new friends. I’ve regained strength, endurance, and confidence. Returning to social events and group gatherings post-Covid has been fun. The double takes and compliments always lead to people wanting to know what I’ve been doing to lose weight. I happily tell women about Dr. Haver and The Galveston Diet on a daily basis. Even my husband tells people about TGD! My rheumatologist was so pleased with my weight loss and improved function he investigated The Galveston Diet during my last appointment. He was very impressed with the program and planned to suggest it to his female patients who need to lose weight. My Gynecological Oncologist was intrigued last January when I told her I was starting the program. I can’t wait to go back next month to show her my success! Even my Dermatologist perused the TGD website at my appointment; she was so amazed by my results. I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Haver in her office last month. Her excitement and enthusiasm for The Galveston Diet are palpable. We both got goosebumps when I told her of my success in her program. She even took a selfie with me! The Galveston Diet is different. It’s a lifestyle. It requires commitment. But it works! I’m truly Galveston for Life!
